Chiefs from the Asogli State in the Volta Region have rejected plans by the Governing Council of the Ho Technical University to rename the university after Dr Ephraim Amu.

Togbe A.L Howusu XII who addressed the press on behalf of Togbe Afede XIV, Paramount chief of Asogli traditional area on Monday, 11 February 2019 said the chiefs were unhappy following the failure of the governing council of the University to involve them in the decision-making process.

He added that if there was the need to rename the school, it should be done in consultation with the relevant stakeholders including Chiefs of Asogli State who are the custodians of the land.

He further indicated that although the Chiefs of Asogli recognise the achievements and contribution of Dr Ephraim Amu towards Ghana’s development, they deem it improper to rename the University after him since there was no stakeholder consultation over the decision.

Togbe A.L Howusu XII also indicated that efforts to meet the University Council Chairman to discuss the issue have proved futile.
