The Techiman Municipal Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service(GNFS), DOII Akenten Mensah has cautioned persons in the municipality to be careful of activities that causes fire as the service has no fire tender in case of fire outbreaks.
His comments comes after a diesel tanker and other properties running into thousands of cedis belonging to the excel fuel station on the main Techiman-Kumasi road were razed by the fire.
The cause of the fire is not yet known but the tanker driver’s mate was the only person who suffered serious burns and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Fire fighters from Wenchi, Nkoranza and Techiman battled the blaze for close to 2- hours before taming the explosion which had spread to a building on the premises.
”Fire comes unexpectedly, be extra careful as we enter the harmattan season. Don’t leave electrical gadgets on when not in use, don’t use non-ventilated single rooms for cooking”, he cautioned .
He disclosed that, the work of the fire fighters has been very difficult in the absence of the tender.
He said ,their co-officers at Wenchi and Nkoranza are called in to assist them quench fire after their only fire tender was involved in an accident last week on the Bamire road , a suburb of Techiman.
He appealed to the government, philanthropists, individuals and groups to assist them maintain their vehicle.
Meanwhile,DOII Akenten Mensah said the service hhas begun investigations into the matter.
