Employ graduates as CSR – Awal to companies

48

Business Development Minister Mohammed Ibrahim Awal has urged companies to employ graduates as part of their Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR).

Mr Awal believes giving jobs and internship opportunities to graduates as part of giving back to society, will enhance the skills of graduates in the corporate world.

Speaking at the 8th Ghana CSR Excellence Award ceremony, Mr Awal admitted that there is a disconnect between academia and industry, which has resulted in the rise in unemployment due to lack of skills.

“I want to urge businesses to consider job placements for our graduates as a key component of CSR … where job experience is needed and very important for them. I encourage you to provide internships for our graduates…,” he stated.

The Corporate Social Responsibility Awards scheme evaluates, assesses and rewards outstanding CSR practices and initiatives, and also encourages the private sector to be more active in its social investment interventions.

It is supported by the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), FAGE and the Chamber of Commerce.
