Gender ministry launches 5-year development plan to address teenage pregnancy


The ministry of Gender, children and social protection has launched a 5-year strategic plan to address the teenage pregnancy menace in the country.


The deputy gender minister, Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo speaking on dinpa 91.3 fm said teenage pregnancy is one of the hindrances to the development of the girl child.

The deputy minister who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, commenting on how Ghana will join the rest of the world to celebrate International Day of the Girl Child on the 11th of October every year said, they will also organize a dialogue on the development opportunity of the girl child.


Since 2012, October 11 has been marked as the International Day of the girl child. The day is to highlight and address the needs and challenges girl’s face, while promoting girls empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.

This year’s Theme was: “with her: a skilled girl force”.

She charged parents to assist in the education of their girl child.
